Cost assumptions and sources

U.S. planning allowances in USD for a simple, single-level deck, including ordinary materials and contractor labor. These are PaperPlan editorial assumptions, not surveyed averages or a local quote.

  • Pressure-treated: $25 – $40 / sq ft installed (USD)
  • Composite: $45 – $70 / sq ft installed (USD)
  • PVC: $60 – $90 / sq ft installed (USD)

Multiply deck area (width × length in feet) by the selected installed rate, then round each end of the range to the nearest $100.

Demolition, permits and engineering, taxes, stairs, railing, roofs, unusual foundations and difficult site access need separate quotes. Location, product selection and labor can put a real bid outside these ranges. Canadian projects need local CAD pricing.

The manufacturer sources below explain scope and cost drivers; they do not validate PaperPlan’s exact installed-rate bands. Supplier material estimates should not be compared directly with an installed project budget.

Sources and assumptions reviewed . Confirm the scope and current price with local contractors before budgeting a build.

Common questions

What does the widget cost?

Nothing, with no account required. We build deck software, and a useful calculator on deck-builder websites is good for everyone involved.

Where do the cost numbers come from?

The same editorial planning allowances as the PaperPlan deck cost calculator, in US dollars for a basic professionally installed US deck. They are not measured survey averages or quotes. Multiply the material allowance by square footage, then round to the nearest hundred. Permits, taxes, demolition, railings, stairs, and difficult site work are excluded. See the calculator for sources and methodology.

Will it slow my site down?

The widget loads lazily inside an iframe, so it does not block your page. It loads no third-party analytics scripts or tracking pixels. It sends basic usage events to PaperPlan, including the embedding site hostname; it does not create visitor profiles.

Do I have to include the attribution link?

No. The optional Powered by PaperPlan paragraph may be removed from the snippet without affecting the calculator. If you keep the link, keep its nofollow attribute.

Can I customize it?

Today you control the size via the iframe attributes. If you want a branded or customized version for your company, email hello@tinywavelabs.com.
